March to the Past was held Saturday at Fort Defiance Civil War Park

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department hosted March to the Past at Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center Saturday, May 14th, 2022 from 10:00am until 3:00pm.
“We are doing our annual March to the Past today. This is a Friends of Fort Defiance event. We help hold it once a year. This event is actually older than the building. The building has been here 11 years but they have been doing March to the Past for over 15 years. So we kinda of inherited this event when we started up here,” stated William Parker, the Historical Interpreter at Fort Defiance.

Local Foundry Casts Replica Cannon for Clarksville Rotary’s 100th Anniversary

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry is one of the oldest continuously operating foundries in the United States. The foundry’s origins predate the Civil War, having first opened in 1847.
While the family owned and operated foundry today casts component parts for a variety of industries, it once manufactured cannons and munitions for the Confederate States of America (1861-1862).

Fort Defiance Interpretive Center to commemorate the 155th Anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a living history event to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the surrender of Fort Defiance to Union soldiers in 1862 from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, February 25th, 2017.
Visitors can see uniformed Civil War re-enactors from Porter’s Battery who will provide living history and canon firing demonstrations.

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance held their annual March to the Past fundraiser at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center at the historic Civil War site in the New Providence area of Clarksville Tennessee on Saturday June 14th.
William Parker of the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation who serves as the historical interpreter for Fort Defiance and the director of the Visitor Center appreciates their actions on behalf of the site. “The Friends of Fort Defiance of been in existence for much longer than the visitor center has been here,” he said. “It’s probably been 20 years that they have been around and each year they hold their March into the Past fund-raising event.”
