Clarksville’s Riverfest to feature “Nashville” star Charles Esten

Clarksville's Riverfest CelebrationClarksville, TN – Riverfest, presented by the City of Clarksville and Miller Lite, is pleased to announce Charles Esten of television’s hit series “Nashville” will be the featured headliner at the 2015 Festival. Charles Esten will take the main stage as the headlining event on Saturday, September 12th, 2015 at 9:00pm. The concert is free and open to the public.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Charles “Chip” Esten was raised in Alexandria, VA and attended T.C. Williams High School, made famous in the film “Remember the Titans.”

2013 Rivers and Spires Festival wins Five Awards at International Festival Conference

Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – The 2013 Rivers & Spires Festival walked away from the 58th Annual International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) Convention with five more awards to add to its already impressive, and ever-growing, collection.

The 2013 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards were announced on September 16th at the IFEA Convention & Expo in Pittsburgh, PA. Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), Doug Barber, Special Events Manager, and Jessica Goldberg, Director of Tourism, were all in attendance to accept the awards.

Austin Peay State University Dance Program expands Reputation

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In 2005, Austin Peay State University developed a dance minor program with one faculty member and a handful of students. Seven years later, the program has three full-time faculty members and several graduates enrolled in Master of Fine Arts programs around the country.

The name “Austin Peay” is also becoming more familiar in collegiate dance circles, with the school having choreographed pieces selected two years in a row to be performed at the American College Dance Festival gala performance.

Dr. Sharon Mabry, professor of music, had her new book, “The Performing Life: A Singer’s Guide to Survival,” featured in the book review section of the latest Journal of the IAWM (International Alliance for Women in Music). The review listed her book as one of three recommended for reading. In addition, her book was noted in a review published in the Library Journal. [Read more]

Love Is In the Air

Currently playing in Downtown Clarksville is the musical comedy revue, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. This very funny and very poignant musical touches on all aspects of love and relationships and every audience member is sure to see themselves on stage at least once.

I asked the ensemble cast of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change if they remembered the first time they were in love and to tell us about it.

APSU Art Exhibit Examines World in Economic Turmoil

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – As stories about the shaky economy continue to surface, arts communities across the country have braced for the worst amidst rumors of budget cuts and timid funders. The arts themselves are vulnerable when the economy is lean because they are at times seen as an expendable luxury.

For curator Ally Reeves the words, “Let them eat cake,” attributed to an oblivious Queen Marie Antoinette, spring to mind, though with an added twist. Art itself is often mistaken for superfluous “cake,” with street-level artists and their work providing a sort of elemental “bread” to the communities they inhabit. [Read more]
