Clarksville, TN – The student art gallery, like most of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) campus, is empty. Usually, at this point in the semester, graduating APSU Art + Design students use the space to host public exhibitions of their work, but this spring has been a bit unusual.
Austin Peay State University’s Paul Collins exhibits new work at Nashville’s Zeitgeist Gallery this March

Clarksville, TN – After 30 years as a studio artist, Paul Collins now works exclusively in public spaces.
For each of new project, the Austin Peay State University associate professor of art spends two weeks painting at sites chosen for their history, politics or public use. This March, Collins will present seven of these projects in a new exhibition, “Fortnight Session,” at Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville Tennessee.
New Gallery at Austin Peay State University presents Faculty Triennial exhibition

Clarksville, TN – Next month, Austin Peay State University’s The New Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art + Design, will present the Faculty Triennial, an exhibition celebrating the artwork of current Art + Design faculty.
This year has brought many celebrations to the Department of Art + Design. In August, the new Art + Design building opened its doors to students with new studio classrooms and new exhibition spaces.
Austin Peay State University APSU student Nicole Santoyo offers artistic take on “modern” life in the South

Clarksville, TN – Art can be seen as a window into the world, and Austin Peay State University art and biology double major Nicole Santoyo’s recent work has done that, offering a look into a familiar world through the lenses of an unfamiliar visitor.
Santoyo was awarded a 2015-16 Presidential Research Scholarship (PRS) for her presentation, titled “Southern Epic: Addressing Contemporary Tennessean Life,” a series of oil paintings addressing what she saw as a misrepresentation of the South; namely, a tendency to focus on presenting life in states like Tennessee as more idyllic and glamorous than the reality.

The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and Design will present the exhibition, “Where the Wild Things Are,” on April 2nd in Nashville’s L Gallery, in the heart of Nashville’s art district.
APSU art professor Collins exhibits work in New York City show

Clarksville, TN – The Painting Center, an art gallery in New York City that is regularly mentioned in national publications such as The New Yorker and ArtForum, is hosting a solo exhibition this month of work by Paul Collins, Austin Peay State University associate professor of art.
The exhibit, titled “Into the Yellow Wood,” features a series of painted and collaged images that, according to the gallery, “examine the absurdity of the artist’s own unshakable romanticism. These works examine the construction of natural beauty under the scouring light of ecological Armageddon.”

Austin Peay State University students and faculty to be feature in new exhibit in Nashville

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art will be showcasing the work of its students and faculty this Saturday, February 7th at the L Gallery, located in the heart of Nashville’s art district.
Titled “ALL IN: Students and Faculty Selections from APSU”, the exhibit will feature artwork by students in a number of disciplines, including Karlie Allen (graphic design), Amy Duncan (drawing), Amy Dean (ceramics), Laura Praseutkoun (photography) and Laura Ward (sculpture).
