Wilma Rudolph’s Olympic Gold Medal Runs Still Inspire 60 years later

Clarksville, TN – Destined to a life of immobility, a child who suffered from severe illnesses grew up to become the fastest woman in the world, a civil rights activist, educator and an inspiration to a world of admirers.
Now, 60 years after winning three gold medals at the 1960 Rome Olympics, we once again celebrate the woman who shattered barriers and overcame the impossible. That woman was Wilma Glodean Rudolph.
APSU biology senior to represent Team USA at World University Games

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) biology student Brinna Lavelle won a bronze medal for Team USA at the America Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil last July.
This July, the senior Governor hopes to win another medal on a bigger stage, the World University Games in Naples, Italy. She thinks she’ll do well.

Illustrator Frank Morrison to Speak on “The Quickest Kid in Clarksville”

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center welcomes illustrator Frank Morrison on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 on its monthly Second Saturday Free Admission day. The museum is open to the public with free admission from 10:00am – 5:00pm.
Attendees will have three opportunities to hear Atlanta artist and illustrator Frank Morrison promote appreciation of illustration as an art form, reading as an enjoyable learning experience, how children and adults benefit from viewing art, as well as talking about his road to becoming a professional artist. Morrison will present in the Turner Auditorium at 10:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 7K and 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus.
For over thirty years, hundreds of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell school students, teachers and family members have participated in this Clarksville tradition.

Clarksville, TN – The Early Bird Deadline for the 34th Annual Queen City Road Race, scheduled for Sunday, May 6th, is quickly approaching! Those registering for the 5K race on or by April 20th will qualify for the $20.00 rate. Registration after April 20th will be $25.00 for the 5K.

APSU Health Professor, noted Book Author to lead free Workshop on How to Get Published

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Gregg Steinberg, professor of health and human performance at Austin Peay State University, will conduct a free seminar on writing a book proposal that sells.
The seminar will be from 4:00pm-5:00pm, Wednesday, October 26th in the Morgan University Center, Room 306. The event is open to the public.
Steinberg has sold three books to major publishing houses. He is the author of “Full Throttle: 122 Strategies to Supercharge Your Performance at Work,” “Mental Rules for Golf” and “Flying Lessons.”
