New exhibit at APSU showcases road trip paintings across America

January 14, 2015

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For the last 12 years, Gregory Botts has been criss-crossing the nation with a car loaded full of art supplies, painting the sites and varying light he encountered.

At first begun as a clarification of the larger abstract works that he was making in the studio, these paintings have grown into their own body of impressive works that feed and inform his larger body of work. Austin Peay State University’s Trahern Gallery is proud to host the first large survey of these works in connection with his larger studio paintings this winter, “Gregory Botts: Painting Along the Road.”

January 13, 2014

Sue Culverhouse author of "Tennessee Literary Luminaries: From Cormac McCarthy to Robert Penn Warren "Clarksville, TN – Sue Freeman Culverhouse, long a staff-writer for ClarksvilleOnline.com, features eleven Tennessee authors in her new book. Tennessee Literary Luminaries: From Cormac McCarthy to Robert Penn Warren (The History Press, Charleston, SC, 2013). Her author website, www.sueculverhouse.com, links her readers to information about the book and her upcoming blog.

“I’m tired of people outside Tennessee believing that we’re all wearing overalls without a shirt, chewing tobacco, going barefoot, toting six-shooters, and living off road kill,” Culverhouse admits. “I want our youngsters to be proud of the literary heritage these and other Tennessee writers have contributed to the world of literature. All of the authors in my book have interesting lives in addition to having written not-to-be missed books.”

APSU student currently running across America

July 30, 2012

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A couple of years ago, Austin Peay State University student and former cross country team standout Tracee Gruskiewicz fell out of love with running. She didn’t want to lace up her shoes anymore and push herself to do three-, four- or five-mile runs through the streets of Clarksville.

That attitude seems so foreign to her now. Particularly earlier this month, when she ran through the Mojave Desert at night to stay cool. Or the day she jogged into Texas, the humid air thick like a sweater against her skin. Not running was never an option. Instead, she dipped a shirt in ice water, draped it around her head, and tried to get her average 35 miles of running in for the day.

APSU Student Tracee Gruskiewicz stopped at Clarksville's Freedom Deli to rest before continuing her run across America.
