Clarksville Police Department holds Inaugural 5k Run/Walk for C.O.P.S.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department hosted a 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, May 9th at the Clarksville Police Department Headquarters located at 135 Commerce Street. The entry fee was $25.00 and included a t-shirt. Kids 10 & under was $10.00 (did not include a shirt).
“I wanted to hold a community participation event,” stated CPD Captain Scott Thornton. “It will be timed with a digital clock, but it’s more about the community coming out and competing with the police in an event together.”

National Police Week 2012: Honoring and Remembering our Fallen Law Enforcement Officers

Clarksville, TN – In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 that set aside May 15th as National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week. This year, National Police Week will run from Sunday, May 13th through Saturday, May 19th.
The law was later amended by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1995, Public Law 103-322 signed by President Bill Clinton, directing that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on all government buildings on May 15th each year as a tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Tennessee Highway Patrol remembers fallen troopers and officers

In observance of National Police Week, the Tennessee Highway Patrol today honored State Troopers and other law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty at its annual Memorial Service at the Tennessee Department of Safety Headquarters on Foster Avenue in Nashville.
TDOS Commissioner Dave Mitchell welcomed Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn as the event’s keynote speaker, while Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Mike Walker, members of THP’s Command Staff, current and former State Troopers, and family members of fallen officers were also on hand for the ceremony.
