APSU hosting Tennessee History Day competition on February 24th

Clarksville, TN – On February 24th, 255 Middle and High School students from seven surrounding counties, along with their teachers, parents and supporters, will converge on the Austin Peay State University campus for the annual Tennessee History Day event.

APSU hosting regional Tennessee History Day competition February 25th

Clarksville, TN – Last February, when Austin Peay State University first hosted a regional Tennessee History Day competition, organizers weren’t sure what to expect. Would local middle and high school students take the event seriously, crafting projects such posters, plays and documentaries on historical events?
“What came out amongst the judging core last year was that this was a whole lot more fun and a whole lot more interesting than they thought it would be,” Dr. Kristofer Ray, APSU associate professor of history and the event coordinator, said. “Most of the projects were very imaginative and thoughtful. Richview Middle School Students to Compete in National History Day Competition

Clarksville, TN – All Eighth grade PASS (gifted program) students in Montgomery County competed in the district level of the National History Day Contest on February 22nd, 2012.
Students who placed at the district level moved on to compete at the state level on April 22nd, 2012 in Nashville Tennessee.
Emily Ritchart, John Courson, Jake Kolaski, Sidney McCarty, and Cherie Saffold of Richview Middle School are heading to Washington D.C. to compete in National History Day.
Austin Peay State University to host regional Tennessee History Day Competition on February 22nd

Clarksville, TN – On February 22nd, about 300 of the top middle and high school history students in the area will converge on Austin Peay State University for a Tennessee History Day Competition. The local campus was recently selected as the host site for the newly-formed North Middle Tennessee district of the highly-regarded national competition.
Students from surrounding counties will visit APSU that Wednesday to participate in a wide range of categories, including performance, websites, posters, papers and documentary film, all centered around this year’s theme of Revolution, Reaction and Reform. The winners in each category will go on to the state competition in Nashville in April. Students who place in that event will go on to the National History Day Competition in College Park, MD. Northeast Middle School Students Win State Competition with Help from APSU

Clarksville, TN – The War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville is a large venue, with two levels of seating and a capacity for more than 1,600 people. When three Northeast Middle School students first entered the building last month, their eyes widened. One of them might have gasped.
That’s where they were supposed to perform the short play they wrote? With all those seats?
“We didn’t think we would do well at all,” Ariana Nelson, 14, said.
“We said, ‘our play is so lame,’” Brianna Tyre, 14, said.
