Last Chance to see “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” at the Roxy Regional Theatre

February 29, 2012

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – If you have ever been in a relationship, currently in a relationship, or simply wishing to date, then “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is the musical for you. It explores the truths and myths behind dating and relationships with a hysterical musical spin.

I was laughing constantly during the performance and sometimes so hard I had to wipe tears from my eyes as I related to the situation the actors were portraying. I found myself constantly thinking, “Yeah been there” or “Done that”.

Roxy Regional TheatreBEEHIVE: The '60s Musical Sensation

Clarksville, TN – If you have not seen it yet, you need to get down to the Roxy Regional Theatre this weekend for the last three shows of “Beehive: The ’60s Musical Sensation”. This show features five hot women, a six-piece band and dozens of outrageous costumes. I think the shower curtain skirt was my favorite.

Kendall Anne Thompson, Brianna Hertzberg, Troy Jackson, Jenae Thompson, and Heather Anderson give magnificent vocal performances singing songs from The Chiffons, The Supremes, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and other ’60s pop stars. Several of the songs featured subperb harmonies.

Beehive: The ’60s Musical Sensation now playing through Saturday at the Roxy.

Community Arts Program at APSU Hosts Inaugural Musical Theater Camp

June 29, 2011

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last Friday afternoon, a new musical premiered at the Austin Peay State University Music/Mass Communication Building’s Concert Hall. The show, “Intergalactic Space Trip,” was an ambitious, 15-minute production, featuring several musical numbers sung in a half dozen different languages.

When the cast, made up of local 8 to 12 year olds, took their final bow at the end of the show, the parents sitting in the audience agreed that it was a success. They were happy to see what their children had learned in only five days.

APSU’s Center of Excellence Celebrates 25th Anniversary with New Musical by Two APSU Professors

March 30, 2011

Clarksville, TN – One thing that really annoys Dr. Richard Gildrie, emeritus professor of history at Austin Peay State University, is when people commonly mistake Benjamin Franklin for a serious, pompous old man. Don’t even mention to him D.H. Lawrence’s essay criticizing the founding father’s seminal work, “The Autobiography,” unless you’re looking for an argument.

“That essay angered me so much, in which Lawrence took seriously the assumption in ‘The Autobiography’ where Franklin said he wanted to be perfect,” Gildrie said. “The whole thing is obviously a spoof. Few people understand that Ben Franklin was quite a comedian, and the Pennsylvania Gazette was a sort of ‘The Daily Show’ of its time.”

SMOKE: A Ballad of the Night Riders opens this weekend.

June 2, 2010

Director, David Alford

What would cause a close knit community of friends and farmers to pull their curtains tight and lock their doors at sunset? What could turn brother against brother in an act of hatred and deceit? It all goes back to a single tobacco leaf that caused a fiery uproar that affected everyone in town and spanned state lines. It is said that the details surrounding this event have been so hidden and suppressed through the years that family Patriarch’s have had to die before this story could be told. Starting this weekend, David Alford is telling that story in the form of a drama based musical called SMOKE: A Ballad of the Night Riders.

David Alford, writer and director of the well known play SPIRIT: The Authentic story of the Bell Witch is bringing to the stage in Adams, TN SMOKE:A Ballad of the Night Riders, as well as writing the lyrics to this musicals original score. [Read more]
