APSU’s esports team expanding quickly after first year on campus

Clarksville, TN – Last September, Ranked-Up Esports President Austin Stewart expected 13 or 14 Austin Peay State University (APSU) students to show up at the team’s first-ever interest meeting. More than 80 people showed up.
“We were blown away,” Stewart, a business senior, said. “We had 10 pizzas, and we quickly ran out of those.”

Jessica Harris has been appointed principal at Minglewood Elementary School; and, Nabraunda Jackson has been named principal at Byrns Darden Elementary School.

APSU Computer Science and Information Technology students compete, present research at major competitions

Clarksville, TN – Students from Austin Peay State University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology have been active in recent weeks, competing in regional coding challenges, as well as presenting findings at a major academic conference.
Two teams of Austin Peay students recently made a strong showing at the Association for Computer Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) 2017 Mid-Central USA Regional Contest, held Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Clarksville, TN – In the mid-1960s, Austin Peay State University professor of biology Dr. David Snyder began work on a monumental task.
Commissioned by the Tennessee Valley Authority to conduct an inventory of the herpetofauna, or reptiles and amphibians, of the newly established Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, Snyder and a small team of researchers and students set about cataloguing the various species contained within the 170,000-acre plot of land crossing the Tennessee and Kentucky border.
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Showcases Sculptor Olen Bryant

Clarksville, TN – Through October 16th, the Orgain and Bruner Galleries of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center greet museum visitors with gentle faces of wood and ceramic. Olen Bryant: Tennessee Treasure celebrates the region’s favorite artists with an exhibition of thirty-one works.
Coming from private collectors as well as the Customs House’s own permanent collection, the show features delicate women from the 1950s to a large ironing board figure created in 2004.

Montgomery County, TN – Assistant principals for Woodlawn Elementary School and Northwest High School have been selected.
Northwest’s new assistant principal is Jessica Peppard, who has served as academic coach for Northwest and Northeast High Schools. She will replace Marlon Heaston, who has been named principal of Kenwood Middle. Christina Irwin has been appointed assistant principal at Woodlawn, replacing Jennifer Silvers who was named principal of the school.
