Nashville State Community College in Clarksville Admits 1st Student

Nashville State Community CollegeNashville, TN – On May 1st, 2012, Nashville State Community College officially enrolled its first student at the new campus in Clarksville when Tyreco Nolton completed the admissions process and enrolled in classes which begin on August 25th, 2012.

According to Kathy Ragan, the Nashville State admissions representative at the campus, “Tyreco was very diligent in getting his information to the college in order to start classes this fall. He is clearly excited about beginning his education at Nashville State.” [Read more]

“We are pleased to see the school system continue to seek ways to minimize their environmental footprint, and at the same time maximize efficiencies where possible,” states Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

The Green Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, May 2nd at the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s Fuel Center, located on the campus of West Creek High School.

Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter receives grant for spay/neuter vouchers

One of the young cats available for adoption at the Montgomery County Animal ShelterClarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter has received an anonymous $10,000 donation to provide spay-neuter vouchers to pet owners in the Clarksville-Montgomery county area.

The vouchers are available from the “Friends of the Shelter”, and will be available at “Doggie Palozza” this weekend at the Heritage Park Bark Park. The vouchers are $40.00 for cats, $50.00 for dogs, under 60 pounds.

There are no income restrictions and the vouchers are available to anyone in Montgomery County. The vouchers will be honored at St. Bethlehem Animal Clinic and will be valid for two weeks after purchase. [Read more]

The Latest Trail In The Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways Program

Screaming Eagle TrailClarksville, TN The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development officially launched the Screaming Eagle Trail at a special event Friday, April 20th held at the Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville, Tennessee. The 13th of 16 self-guided driving tours in the Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways program, The Screaming Eagle travels 353 miles from Nashville throughout other cities in Middle Tennessee.

The Screaming Eagle Trail is the result of a partnership between multiple state agencies and city and county officials. The end result is a trail made up of sites and attractions in Benton, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery and Stewart counties that travels through Middle Tennessee’s history, landscape, music and cuisine.

A Green Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on Monday, April 16th to celebrate their successful initiatives and completion of the program.

34th Annual Queen City Road Race Early Bird Registration deadline is quickly approaching

34th Annual Queen City Road RaceClarksville, TN – The Early Bird Deadline for the 34th Annual Queen City Road Race, scheduled for Sunday, May 6th, is quickly approaching! Those registering for the 5K race on or by April 20th will qualify for the $20.00 rate. Registration after April 20th will be $25.00 for the 5K.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus. Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The mayor of Montgomery County, who also is an Austin Peay State University alumna, was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 191 Academic Hall of Fame.

Mayor Carolyn Bowers (’68, ’79) was inducted Tuesday, April 10th during the APSU chapter’s initiation ceremony. As part of a permanent tribute, her name will be displayed on a plaque housed in the Woodward Library on the main campus.
