Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of achievements as part of their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost for grants and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, recently contributed three chapters to the new scholarly book, “The A-Z of Death and Dying: Social, Medical, and Cultural Aspects,” edited by Michael Brennan. Dennis wrote the chapters, “Definition of Death,” “Funerals” and “Near-Death Experiences.” [Read more]

Michele Tyndall, project manager in the APSU Office of Public Relations and Marketing, and Dr. Melony Shemberger, former assistant director of communication at APSU, will present a session at The Council for Advancement and Support Education’s District III Conference in Orlando, FL, this February. Shemberger now is assistant professor of journalism at Murray State University. [Read more]

Michael Hamlet, director of human resources, has been appointed by the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) board of directors to the 2013 Board of Examiners. As an examiner, he will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating organizations that apply for the TNCPE Award. [Read more]

Two Austin Peay State University Alumni to be inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Two Austin Peay State University alumni, one of whom is a congressman, will be inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 191 Academic Hall of Fame.

In addition, the chapter will initiate 116 students and six faculty as new members during the ceremony at 6:30pm, Wednesday, April 10th in Clement Auditorium. [Read more]

Shemberger places in top 10 at inaugural Bowling Green Half-Marathon

November 7, 2012

Restore Performance MassageClarksville, TN – Russ Shemberger, a licensed massage therapist at Restore Performance Massage on Madison Street in Clarksville, finished in the top 10 of all finishers in the inaugural Bowling Green Half-Marathon on Sunday, November 4th in Bowling Green, KY.

Shemberger finished the hilly 13.1-mile course in 1:34:10, his personal best at this distance, and placed second in his age group (45-49). The course route included downtown Bowling Green and the Western Kentucky University campus.

For the 10th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at APSU is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project. Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or funds for the purchase of books.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won five awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 17th-18th at Middle Tennessee State University.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories. More than 150 entries were received for the contest period between April 1st, 2011, and March 31st, 2012. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University’s Shemberger to discuss journalism and sunshine laws at March 14th Library Athenaeum

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Where would the journalist, or a democratic society for that matter, be without sunshine laws? Created in the 1970s, the laws require that governments provide public access to meetings and records.

“These tools are necessary for journalists, who often gather public information to write their stories, either by attending open public meetings or by filing open records requests,” Dr. Melony Shemberger, an award-winning journalist and assistant director of communication at Austin Peay State University, said.
