2014 Cultural Calendars Now Available through Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council

Clarksville, TN – The 2014 Cultural Calendar, produced by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council, is now available online and at several local shops.
Each month of the calendar features an original work by a local artist, depicting a scene in Montgomery County, along with highlights of arts and heritage activities planned by community organizations for that month.
Chi Omega chapter donates painting to APSU in honor of 40 years on campus

Clarksville, TN – A new painting will soon hang in Harned Hall, on the Austin Peay State University campus. The artwork – a watercolor of the University’s quadrangle – was recently donated to the school by the artist, Lynne Waters Griffey, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Sigma Kappa chapter of the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity at APSU.
The print will hang with a plaque, acknowledging it as a gift from the chapter to the University.
Clarksville awarded grants to help fund Smith-Trahern Mansion restoration plan

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Historical Commission awarded the City of Clarksville a Historic Preservation Fund grant of $20,000 to prepare a plan for the restoration of the Smith-Trahern Mansion.
These funds represent sixty-percent of the project budget. In order to complete the project, a forty-percent match from local funds is required. Fundraising efforts by the City will continue, with some help already.

Austin Peay State University’s Chi Omega Chapter Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Clarksville, TN – The Sigma Kappa chapter of Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity turns 40 this year. In May of 1972, the Sigma Tao Omega sorority was granted an official charter from Chi Omega, becoming the first national sorority on Austin Peay’s campus.
Since then, through the national organization, this Chi Omega chapter has raised nearly $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation and has donated thousands of volunteer hours to local charities and organizations.

City of Clarksville to Fundraise to Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville made an announcement Friday night at the Riverfest Amatuer & Professional Art Exhibit involving the future of the Smith-Trahern mansion.
The City is embarking on a fundraising campaign to raise money for repairs to the mansion. This mid-19th century home is one of the oldest homes still in existence in Clarksville today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. [Read more]
