APSU to hold Flute Day 2022 on March 27th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Music will celebrate Flute Day 2022 with a day filled with masterclasses, discussions, and a concert featuring internationally praised flutist Dr. Alexa Still.

The day – on Sunday, March 27th – will include interactive workshops and masterclasses for high school and collegiate players and a question-and-answer discussion on careers in music before culminating with the concert.

Grammy winner Rhonda Larson to visit APSU as final Acuff Chair of Excellence of 2014-15

Clarksville, TN – The final Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence recipient of 2014-15, Grammy Award winning flutist Rhonda Larson, will bring her talents to campus for a series of lectures and master classes at Austin Peay State University the week of April 21st-28th.

During her residency, Larson will share her experiences as a performing artist, as well as offering insight and lessons to APSU and area students. Her visit to campus will conclude on Tuesday, April 28th, with a concert with the APSU Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gregory Wolynec. The event will take place at 7:30pm at the Mabry Concert Hall, on the campus of APSU.

Renowned flutist William Bennett to perform concert at APSU on June 27th

Clarksville, TN – Classical music aficionados throughout the area mark June on their calendars each year, because that’s when flutist William Bennett, considered “the greatest living flute player in the world,” hosts a special concert on the Austin Peay State University campus.

This year, he’ll perform his transcription of the Violin Sonata in f minor by Felix Mendelssohn at 7:30pm, Friday, June 27th, in the Mabry Concert Hall.

Gateway Chamber Orchestra To Host Second “Winter Baroque” Concert On December 8th

Clarksville, TN – In 1939, Italian composer Alfredo Casella performed a little-known choral work by Antonio Vivaldi. The piece was about 200 years old, but after two centuries of neglect, Vivaldi’s “Gloria” struck a cord with Casella’s audience. The Baroque masterwork, originally composed as part of the Catholic Mass, is now a holiday staple, performed in churches across the globe each December.

At 3 p.m. on Dec. 8, the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and Choir will feature the famed work at the Madison Street United Methodist Church during the GCO’s second annual Winter Baroque Concert.
