APSU’s Candlelight Ball to return next May

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Last spring, the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic caused Austin Peay State University (APSU) to cancel its premier social event, the Candlelight Ball, for the first time in 36 years.

The ball, which raises money for vital student scholarships, is set to return next spring, and organizers are working to keep the annual celebration from suffering another disruption.

Dancing with the Stars to be held Saturday March 5th, 2016

Altrusa International of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Altrusa International Foundation of Clarksville presents its Seventh Annual Dancing with the Stars show on Saturday March 5th, 2016, 7:00pm at the Austin Peay State University’s Music/Mass Communications Building. This year will be an All-Star Reunion Show with 10 former Stars once again returning to the stage!

The event is held as a fund raiser to provide scholarships to non-traditional students. Our goal this year is to present $10,000 in scholarships.

L.E.A.P. OrganizationClarksville, TN – Tuesday, January 25th, 2014 marked the 1st Annual LEAP Charity Fashion Show Gala at the Emmanuel Family Life Center.

Youth modeled the fashions of local designers such as ELO, Molerevon, Sacer & Savive, Heaven Sent Bowtique, Filthy Rich Celebrity Jewelry, and E & S Fashions with Gem’s Hair Salon and Eyetunes donating their time to provide participants with hair and makeup makeovers. While some students modeled, other students prepared the food and served guests.

Legends of Clarksvegas returns to raise money for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Humane Society

Come see Shawn Barker as “Johnny Cash”, Lance Lipinsky as “Jerry Lee Lewis”, Freddy B as “Elvis Presley”, and Steve Bobbitt as “Rod Stewart” along with special guests, the EAS Showband, the official tribute band for Graceland. Clarksville Unity DayClarksville, TN – On Saturday Hilldale Baptist Church played host to third annual Unity Day celebration. The goal of Unity Day is to build a stronger community by recognizing and joining together religious, governmental and business leaders in fellowship.

Unity Day was founded by Treva Gordon, the owner and publisher of the Convenient Shopper Magazine. “I was watching an awards show on television and I was so inspired by the way they honored the pop star’s and the rap artists. It was wonderful; they had the gift bags, bling bling, the limos, and everything that went with it. That was awesome!” she said to herself.

Guess What I Heard? coming to APSU Saturday

Guess What I HeardClarksville, TN – The Gospel play “Guess What I Heard?” will be performed at the APSU in the Clement Auditorium on Saturday, January 22nd 2011 at 2:00pm and at 7:00pm. The play is based on the book written by Camilla Vargas. It is produced, written, and directed by Treva R. Gordon; with writing assistance by Lavon Bravy. Associate directors include Alphonse & Benetta Prather, Lavon Bracey, and Jacqueline Lisenby.

Guess What I Heard is not your ordinary gospel music theatrical play. Comprised of 6 vignettes that touch on stalking in a relationship, baby momma drama, spousal cheating, spousal abuse, self esteem, & suicide. On Sunday, the Clarksville Convenient Shopper Magazine along with several other area businesses honored Pastor Willie J. Freeman of Greater Missionary Baptist Church with a “Community Spirit of Excellence Award.” Treva Gordon the CEO/Founder of Convenient Shopper Magazine and the woman behind Clarksville’s Unity Day, said, “This award is given to choice citizens who strive to make a difference in our community, demonstrates goodwill, as well as the promotion of Unity in the Community.”

Comedy on the Cumberland provides post-flood assistance to local branch of the American Red Cross

Comedy on the CumberlandThe Second Comedy on the Cumberland benefit has come and gone. The charity event held on Tuesday evening brought five very funny comedian to Clarksville; raising over $4,000 to help the local chapter of the American Red Cross start on their own road to recovery after the Great Flood of 2010.

Interim CEO Randy Weddle related how they were affected by the flooding. “The flood of 2010 affected your Red Cross just as it did so many citizens of the county and surrounding areas. We had about three feet of water that came through our building, but you would never know it by the way that our strong hearted volunteers responded to the needs of our citizen”. The Red Cross spent a lot of money and expended a lot of their resources, helping local residents during the May 2010 flooding.
