Two Austin Peay State University professors picked for prestigious Carnegie fellowship

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Two Austin Peay State University (APSU) professors have been chosen for the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program.

They are among five from Tennessee and 51 from the United States and Canada who will travel to Africa this summer to help universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.

Austin Peay sociology/journalism student Sarah Eskildson to help combat human trafficking with summer internship

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – An earthquake ravaged parts of Nepal on April 25th, 2015 destroying homes and businesses and killing nearly 9,000 people. In the months following the devastation, several mysterious individuals appeared in the ruble, offering survivors the opportunity to pursue a better life through education or jobs overseas.

Thousands of women and girls, having no alternative, accepted these seemingly generous offers.

APSU alumni Lynn Von Hagen pursues research opportunity in Kenya

February 28, 2016

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – As a young person, Lynn Von Hagen dreamed of working with animals. She donated to conservation groups and gave her time and talents to Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary, a domestic animal rescue organization in Hendersonvillem TN.

However, as is the case for many people, Von Hagen was forced to postpone her dreams of pursuing studies in zoology, ecology and animal biology and concentrate on earning a living.

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – As a teenager, Lynn Von Hagen dreamed of working as a biologist in Africa. She raised money for conservation groups, like the World Wildlife Fund, and she often found herself staring at photographs of lions and elephants in the pages of National Geographic.

In the early 1990s, Hagen decided to enroll at Vol State Community College, but after earning her associate degree in 1993, she put her dream of becoming abiologist on hold.

Tennessee Association of Craft Artists Show at Clarksville’s Customs House Museum

January 13, 2014

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Twenty four members of TACA will exhibit woodturnings, ceramics, tapestries, and embroideries; as well as, traditional paintings and photography at the museum this month.

Most Tennesseans are familiar with the TACA (Tennessee Association of Craft Artists) Craft Fairs that take over Nashville’s Centennial Park every year. The events have repeatedly been ranked as one of the “Top Twenty Events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society.
