Kendall Anne Thompson Concludes a Year-Long Run at the Roxy with “Beehive”

October 14, 2011

Roxy Regional Theatre

Kendall Anne ThompsonRoxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – Kendall Anne Thompson will forever be known to Roxy fans as “The Green Girl,” a moniker she justifiably won while performing her star turn last season in “Shout: The Mod Musical”.

So, we color-coded her in green again for her farewell performance in “Beehive: The ‘60s Musical Sensation”. When Beehive closes this weekend, she takes with her a piece of our hearts and leaves with a cache of credits — The Sound of Music (Maria), Almost Heaven, The Civil War, Bea(u)tiful in the Extreme (Sacagawea), Doubt (Sister James), Hamlet (Ophelia), A Christmas Carol (Belle/Mary), Tape (Amy), Around the World in 80 Days (Aouda), Dracula (Vampiress) — credits which would be coveted by any actress at the end of a long career, but even more so by someone so young, so talented and so giving an artist. Kendall has thrilled this senior citizen and awakened feelings I had long forgotten, some parental and a few prurient.

Last Chance to catch the Musical “Beehive” at the Roxy

October 13, 2011

Roxy Regional TheatreBEEHIVE: The '60s Musical Sensation

Clarksville, TN – If you have not seen it yet, you need to get down to the Roxy Regional Theatre this weekend for the last three shows of “Beehive: The ’60s Musical Sensation”. This show features five hot women, a six-piece band and dozens of outrageous costumes. I think the shower curtain skirt was my favorite.

Kendall Anne Thompson, Brianna Hertzberg, Troy Jackson, Jenae Thompson, and Heather Anderson give magnificent vocal performances singing songs from The Chiffons, The Supremes, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and other ’60s pop stars. Several of the songs featured subperb harmonies.

The music of John Denver soars at the Roxy Regional Theatre

June 11, 2011

Clarksville, TN – The Roxy Regional Theatre kicked off their run of the musical Almost Heaven. The show pays tribute to the life and music of John Denver. The production uses twenty five iconic John Denver songs that are a cross section of our nation capturing the turbulent times in which he wrote them. The wildly popular songs are juxtaposed with interviews, fan letters, and passages from his autobiography to weave the spell binding story of his life.

Directed by Tom Thayer, the show features Keith Panzarella, Erica Haines Cantrell, Bryan Benware, Kendall Anne Thompson and Ryan Bowie, with David Lovell on guitar, Tom Thayer on piano and Thad Wallus on bass.

The Civil War Musical at the Roxy Theater—What a Bargain!

May 11, 2011

Clarksville, TN – Attending the Civil War Musical at Clarksville’s Roxy Theater is the biggest bargain in entertainment in Middle Tennessee! Where else can you see a professionally staged and professionally performed musical for a mere twenty dollars?

“The Civil War: A Sesquicentennial Event” is from a book by Frank Wildhorn, Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy with music by Frank Wildhorn, and lyrics by Frank Wildhorn, Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy.

What this musical accomplishes is the revelation that both Union and Confederate soldiers–many of whom literally were brothers–had identical desires and feelings going into war. Each is certain that his cause is just and worth fighting for. Slaves are portrayed suffering intense emotions as husband and wife are separated by forces outside themselves.

The Roxy Regional Theatre recognizes the Civil War Sesquicentennial with the Civil War Musical

April 27, 2011

Clarksville, TN – In recognition of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, the Roxy Regional Theatre is currently staging a production of the Frank Wildhorn and Gregory Boyd musical, The Civil War. This has to be one of the best of the many shows I have seen at the Roxy Regional Theatre.

Drawing on letters, diaries, firsthand accounts, and the words of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and Walt Whitman, the musical covers the enormous emotional landscape of the most difficult test our nation has ever endured. The Civil War musical puts a human face on the greatest tragedy of American history and passionately asks us to consider our beliefs about freedom, honor and faith.
