Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Communication celebrated 10 years of incorporating service learning with a formal presentation for the Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service Learning in Franklin, Tennessee, on Monday, February 11th, 2019.
Montgomery County Historical Society to show “Dorothy Dix: An American Journalist” documentary film by Inga Filippo Monday, September 15th

Clarksville, TN – The new documentary film “Dorothy Dix: An American Journalist” will be highlighted at the next meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society on Monday, September 15th at the Beach Civic Hall in the Veterans Plaza complex on Pageant Lane.
The meeting will start at 7:00pm. Inga Filippo, who researched and wrote the film script, will introduce the screening.
Elizabeth Meriwether Gilmer who wrote under the pen name Dorothy Dix.
APSU documentary on Dorothy Dix wins National Award

Clarksville, TN – In 2010, an Austin Peay State University library professor named Inga Filippo approached Kathy Heuston, associate professor of communication, about producing a short video on the famed advice columnist and Clarksville native Dorothy Dix.
The University’s Felix G. Woodward Library houses the Dorothy Dix Collection, the most comprehensive collection available on the journalist, but after looking over the material, Heuston proposed something a little more ambitious – a short documentary on Dix.
“An American Journalist, Dorothy Dix” wins Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Award of Excellence for short form documentary.
APSU Communication Professor, Student produce Dix Documentary to air this Month

Clarksville, TN – Anyone who has visited the Dorothy Dix Collection at Austin Peay State University knows that the collection tells only a portion of a woman who was the forerunner of today’s popular advice columnists and America’s most widely read and highest paid journalists.
A new documentary, written and produced by an APSU faculty member and a student, will shed more light on Dix’s life and career when it airs on television later this month. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series to focus on service learning in college courses

Clarksville, TN – Incorporating service learning into the college curriculum is a growing instructional tool, one that will be explored further at the next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University.
Three women – Naomi Rendina, adjunct instructor of history at APSU, Alexandra Wills, assistant director of service and civic engagement at APSU, and Lisa Kurtz, representative with Americorps VISTA – will present “Beyond the Classroom: Enriching Community Partnerships to Promote Student Success” at 3:00pm, Thursday, October 11th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University social work faculty member will explore the role of spirituality in natural disaster relief as the first session of the University’s Provost Lecture Series for 2012-13.
Dr. Tatsushi Hirono, assistant professor of social work, will present “The Role of Religious Leaders in Natural Disaster Relief: A Comparative Analysis Between the Clergy of American Christian Churches and Japanese Buddhist Temples” at 3:00pm, Thursday, September 20th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303.

Austin Peay State University now an Apple Authorized Training Center for Education
