Lone Oak Picnic brings the local community together

The Civitan ClubCunningham, TN – The Central Civitan Club held the 104th Annual Lone Oak Picnic, Saturday July 28th from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Central Civitan Building located on Alonzo Place. Cars were lining up down both sides of the street to pickup the good old fashion BBQ being served.

There was a large crowd throughout the day. At one time there were over 500 people socializing and enjoying some great food. Many were there to here the candidates in this years elections speak. At noon, 14 Federal, State and local candidates gave speeches to the attentive crowd.

The Back Lot Pickers, Donald Greene and Lucian Greene, along with Jimmy Meek played at the 104th Annual Lone Oak Picnic.

Girl Scouts to assist Montgomery County Animal Control Saturday

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Girl Scout Troop 736 will be hosting a Saturday Adoption Event at Montgomery County Animal Control on May 12th from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

They have made special bandanas for the animals and will assist potential adopters with animals as well as answer questions about the animals. [Read more]

Girl Scout Autumn Wirts is assisting Salvation Army with a Winter Coat Drive

Clarksville, TN – The Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary along with the assistance of Autumn Wirts from Girl Scout troop 220 are holding a winter coat until November 12th. There are so many individuals who do not have Winter Coats for the approaching cold weather. So please help by donating serviceable coats and jackets. All sizes are needed from infants to adults.

You can bring your coats for donation to the James D. Amos Emergency Shelter located at 210 Kraft Street, or arrange for pickup by calling Debbie Hadley 931.206.6332 or Sandra Gray 931.206.9115.

2010 American Honey Queen to visit Clarksville

American Beekeeping FederationClarksville, TN – Lisa Schluttenhofer, the 2010 American Honey Queen, will visit Clarksville Tennessee November 4th-9th. She will make appearances at the local schools, speaking to students about how honeybee pollination creates the building blocks of our food supply.

She will also speak to area Girl Scout troops where she will share information about the many uses for helpful and wholesome honey, including the beauty secrets provided by bees. Her visit will also include speeches to the Clarksville Sunrise Rotary and the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association. [Read more]

Billy Dunlop Park closing to the public

July 12, 2009

parksandrec1-200x66Billy Dunlop Park will be closed to the public from July 13th-25th. The park is located on Needmore Road between 101st Parkway and Tiny Town Road.  The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be using the park during these days for private events.  The park will reopen to the public on July 25 at noon.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.  Please feel free visit any of the City of Clarksville’s other park facilities.  For a complete list of parks and locations, visit www.cityofclarksville.com/parksandrec.
