APSU awarded state grant to promote health, fitness

Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a state grant awarded to Austin Peay State University, designated walking trails on campus and nutrition education sessions are in the plans to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
The Tennessee Department of Health recently awarded the Eat Well, Play More Grant, which provides $20,000 in funding, to APSU to develop a program that will help those in the area have immediate access to an environment that encourages fitness and health. [Read more]

CrossFit Aims to make members “Stronger Than Yesterday”
Clarksville, TN – When you walk into CrossFit Conversion, you know you are not at a typical gym. The endless rows of treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bicycles that are the norm for a standard gym are nowhere to be found.
Instead, you are greeted by kettle bells, plyoboxes, and tractor tires. Rings and bars hang from the ceiling, and on one wall, you see a large digital clock with the motto “You vs. You” painted above it.

Clarksville, TN – Mayor Kim McMillan invites everyone to join her for a “Move with the Mayor” event this Saturday morning. The Mayor’s Fitness Council is hosting a walk on the Clarksville Greenway/RiverWalk on Saturday, August 18th at 9:00am.

The 2009 ASPU Wellness Expo will be held in the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center on the campus of Austin Peay from 11:00am to 3:00pm and is free to the general public.
The Wellness Expo offers the community access to information on health, wellness and fitness services and providers throughout the area.
Several Clarksville companies, including health spas, chiropractor clinics, physical therapy clinics, community programs and services, health clubs, among others will be available for demos, gift certificates, product samples, and business information and offer ways in which they can help you or your family make choices that will promote wellness in every aspect of your everyday life.

The 2009 Austin Peay University Recreation Wellness Expo will not only showcase these local companies, but will make the Expo absolutely free for anyone in the Clarksville community who is interested in finding out more.
