10th annual Empty Bowls Clarksville a Huge Success

Clarksville, TN – Hundreds participated in the 10th annual Empty Bowls Clarksville Tuesday, with volunteers at eight local churches serving meals to raise money and awareness for area residents dealing with food insecurities.
This year’s theme; Hope, Not Hunger, will raise tens of thousands of dollars for Loaves & Fishes, and Urban Ministries Food Pantry, local agencies that provide thousands of meals each year for those in need in our community.
Brenda Harper is one of the Empty Bowls volunteers who worked the event at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Acuff Circle now accepting nominates for Ovation Awards

Clarksville, TN – The deadline is fast approaching for nominations for the coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations. Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, January 20th. The awards ceremony is March 1st at the Customs House Museum.
The sponsoring Acuff Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patrons society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996. [Read more]

Empty Bowls of Clarksville to receive $1,680
Clarksville, TN – Altra Federal Credit Union raised over $21,000 nationally with its Drive Away Hunger Campaign. “Hunger is a very real concern in the communities we serve,” stated Cheryl Dutton, Vice President of Marketing for Altra Federal Credit Union. “Besides the financial contribution achieved by the campaign, Drive Away Hunger also generated awareness of the increasing need our communities face in feeding the hungry.”
Altra donated $10.00 for every car, truck, and motorcycle loan financed through Altra from October 1st through November 30th. [Read more]

Sixth annual Empty Bowls Clarksville expands Hope Not Hunger fundraiser to six congregations in 2014.
Clarksville, TN – The problems associated with hunger and food insecurity are not confined to the nation’s largest cities. With over seventeen percent of Clarksville residents living below the poverty level, hunger and food insecurity are a harsh reality for many people in our community.
That means that hundreds of working adults, children and seniors in our community struggle with hunger every day. Food insecurity refers to the availability of food and access to it. Those who are considered food insecure do not know when they will have their next meal.

The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations.
