Jenkins Family creates two new scholarships to benefit APSU students

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University, which turned 90 in April, experienced another big year, with new buildings and programs transforming the campus over the last 12 months.

Women’s volleyball and men’s football electrified the community this fall, and in August, thousands of people cheered as the afternoon sky went dark for nearly two minutes. As this 90th year comes to an end, here are some of the major stories that came out of Austin Peay in 2017.

APSU hosting ribbon-cutting ceremony for new Jenkins Building on October 6th

October 3, 2017

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Last February, the Austin Peay State University Office of University Advancement relocated to 318 College Street, marking the beginning of APSU’s expansion into downtown Clarksville.

At 2:00pm, on Friday, October 6th, 2017 the University will officially celebrate this milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the campus’ new Jenkins Building, home of University Advancement. The ceremony will take place at 416 College Street.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University convened its inaugural Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, March 30th, completing the transition from the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) to its own local governing board.

Austin Peay President Alisa White, joined by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and observed by University faculty and staff, as well as media and members of the community, called the ‘historic’ first meeting to order.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam appoints Eight to serve on Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees

APSU to Have Increased Autonomy with Local Governing Board

Tennessee Higher Education CommissionClarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed eight individuals to the newly created institutional governing board at Austin Peay State University.

The purpose of the appointments is to give the University increased autonomy to support student success as the state continues its Drive to 55 Initiative. Austin Peay State University’s governing board is one of six to be appointed by the governor, a result of the governor’s FOCUS Act passed by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year.

Jenkins and WynneClarksville, TN – In the early days of the auto, showrooms like those on Seattle’s Auto Row were replete with bells and whistles. Chandeliers lit up the floors, highlighting each vehicle’s chrome trim.

By 1954, Frank Lloyd Wright had designed a New York City auto showroom that included a spiral ramp and a turntable interior – it was a glistening museum for the Age of the Automobile.

At the new facilities at 2655 Trenton Road, there is on-site parking for a whopping 1,150 vehicles.
