Clarksville Community Concert Association brings Dallas Brass to APSU Tuesday, January 20th

The Clarksville Community Concert AssociationClarksville, TN – The celebrated Dallas Brass will present its American Tableau concert in Clarksville this Tuesday, January 20th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the campus of Austin Peay State University in the Music/Mass Communication building at Eighth and Marion Streets.“

A Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in ages from five to 95. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.” says Michael Levine, artistic director and founder. This is part of the Clarksville Community Concert Association series.

Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center goes on tour, hosts World Cup Sticker Exchange

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – World Cup fever continues to intensify, with soccer fans across the globe scrambling to fill their World Cup sticker albums. The Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center and Hispanic Alumni Chapter are embarking on a tour to host World Cup Sticker Exchanges at select businesses.

In addition to trading stickers and filling up World Cup sticker albums, there will be free giveaways for those that can answer soccer trivia correctly. Participants will also receive Lady Govs Soccer posters, and be able to speak with staff members about Austin Peay, the APSU Hispanic Alumni Chapter and resources provided by the APSU Hispanic Cultural Center. APSU’s Hispanic Cultural Center hosting Day of the Dead events October 28th through November 1st

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center will host the Govs Cherish and Share: 2013 Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos Art Exhibit from October 28th-November 1st in the Morgan University Center’s Third Floor Gallery.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.

In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.

Austin Peay State University students do service work in Caribbean during Spring Break

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the second year in a row, a group of Austin Peay State University students spent their spring break in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago on an intensive service trip.

This year’s group of 22 students traveled with Dr. Matthew Kenney, director of APSU’s President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP), to the small town of Valencia, where they spent a week building three houses with Habitat for Humanity.

Comedian Santiago to perform at APSU on September 20th in Clement

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Comedian Bill Santiago, who has been featured on Comedy Central, will perform at Austin Peay State University next month as part of Hispanic Heritage Month events.

Santiago, who also is the author of “Pardon My Spanglish,” will entertain at 6:00pm, Tuesday, September 20th in Clement Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public; however, his show is recommended for mature audiences due to strong language.

Noted Native American Scholar and Filmmaker to Speak at APSU Asanbe Symposium

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s annual Asanbe Diversity Symposium, slated for next month, will feature Native American educator, writer, filmmaker and producer Dr. Patty Loew.

At 1:00pm on Friday, April 1st, Loew will lecture in the Honors Commons on “Creation to Contemporary Conflict: Native American Origin Stories as Predictors of Modern Environmental Struggles.” At 3:00pm in the same room, there will be a showing of her documentary film, “Way of the Warrior,” followed by a 4:00pm discussion of the film.
