Clarksville, TN – Willie Rosario has been working in the sales department for the Wyatt-Johnson Automotive Group since 2007. Over the course of those four years, Willie has had hundreds of clients, including many with military ties. A former soldier himself, Willie knows firsthand what it truly means to serve his country and fight for our freedom.

Willie wanted come up with a unique way to express his appreciation for area soldiers’ continued service and sacrifices. After talking with Tammy Phillips, Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader for 4th Brigade Combat Team 506th Infantry Regiment, he learned that many single unmarried soldiers returning home from overseas deployments move back into practically bare Fort Campbell barracks rooms with very few amenities.

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.clarksvilleonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Sheets_For_Soldiers.jpg" class="thickbox no_icon" rel="gallery-7699" title="Wyatt-Johnson auto rep Willie Rosario presents sheets and a gift bag to FRG leader Tammy Phillips and Cpt.

The two discussed “Sheets for Soldiers”, a program the FRG had developed to donate gift bags and comfortable sheets to these returning soldiers. Wanting to help these exhausted troops feel the comforts of home and get a well-deserved good night’s sleep, Willie decided to dedicate his time and efforts to “Sheets for Soldiers”.

Willie brought his idea to Wyatt-Johnson management and the dealership immediately jumped at the chance to help and show their appreciation for the brave men and women of Fort Campbell. Led by Willie’s initiative and the cooperation of Oak Grove Walmart managers Charles Sanders and Elizabeth Henderson, the Wyatt-Johnson Automotive Group purchased 350 sets of bed sheets and donated them to Sheets for Soldiers.

“It’s easy to take our freedom for granted, but it’s important to remember that these soldiers put their lives on the line every day to protect us and our families,” says Willie. “This is just one little way we can express our gratitude.”

Fort Campbell, KY – The U.S. Army unit that includes the famous “Band of Brothers,” the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment, has announced a new monument to honor soldiers of the unit killed in service to their country. The 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association, a nonprofit veterans’ organization dedicated to the active duty soldiers and veterans of the 506th Infantry, is acting on behalf of the regiment to collect contributions in support of the memorial.

The granite monument will be funded totally by private contributions, according to COL John P. “Pete” Johnson, commanding officer of the 101st Airborne Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team at Fort Campbell,. A Nashville cement contractor, Glenn Goodwin of Roy Goodwin Contractors, is contributing all the materials and labor needed for the foundation of the monument. COL Johnson made the announcement as part of a ceremony welcoming the regiment home from a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment – nicknamed the “Currahees” – has been part of the 101st Airborne Division for most of its history. It has fought with distinction in World War II, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, suffering in that time over 1,400 killed in action. It was elevated in the public’s consciousness by the hit movie “Saving Private Ryan” and the television series, “Band of Brothers.”

<img class="size-medium wp-image-1284" title="U.S. paratroopers on D-Day" src="http://www.discoverclarksville.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/dday06-450x337.jpg" alt="U.S. paratroopers fix their static lines before a jump before dawn over Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944, in France.
The regiment parachuted into Normandy before D-Day and fought through the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Market Garden to V-E day. In Vietnam, it achieved additional fame in fierce battles at Hamburger Hill and Firebase Ripcord. It has been deployed to Korea protecting the northern borders, and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. It recently returned to Fort Campbell, home of the parent 101st Airborne Division.

The volunteer 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association sponsors scholarships, packages for overseas soldier, and aid programs for the families of soldiers killed or wounded in action. In doing so, it brings veterans and active duty troops together, and hosts a large website dedicated to the history and people of the regiment.

The Association will accept tax-deductible contributions by mail, or electronically through their website at http://www.506infantry.org. The Association is a charitable War Veterans Organization under IRS section 501(c) (19), and as such, contributions are tax deductible.
