Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department would like to remind everyone that many facilities will be closed in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government offices will be closed Friday, December 23rd and Monday, December 26th in observance of the Christmas holiday.

Public Safety personnel will report as scheduled.

Montgomery County Animal Control facility Access

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – North Spring Street remains closed to through traffic by Clarksville Gas and Water, but access is being allowed to the Montgomery County Animal Control facility.

There have been some complaints about the facility being closed, but Animal Control has not been closed and is not closed.

Volunteer Fire Service Awards Banquet

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The annual Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Service Awards Dinner was held Friday, December 9th at the Montgomery County Civic Hall. Congratulations to the award recipients: Stephanie Geewax, Rescue Squad; Jeff Davidson, Palmyra station; Wade Kunstmann, Cunningham station; Charles “Chip” Nichols-Redman, St. Bethlehem station; Derrick Wilson, East Montgomery station; and Joshus Banker, Woodlawn station, for all being selected as Firefighters of the Year for their respective stations.

Jeff Davidson was given the high honor of being selected as the Overall Firefighter of the Year for 2011. Jeff has been a volunteer firefighter since 1990 and currently serves with the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Service.

Clarksville Mayor appoints new Director of Communications

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan has selected Jennifer Rawls as the new Director of Communications and Public Information Officer.

“Jennifer brings a unique skill set to the job,” Mayor McMillan said. “She’s an attorney, she has led a State agency and she has great communication skills. I think she’s going to be an asset to our office and to Clarksville.” [Read more]

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will attend a program presented by Harvard University’s Institute of Politics. The seminar, which is offered by invitation only, focuses on training newly elected mayors and takes place every two years. All expenses for the seminar are paid by the Institute.

“I’m very honored to be invited to this seminar and look forward to hearing from some of the most respected leaders in public policy and leadership. Having the opportunity to talk and work with mayors from across the country about the issues we all face is good for Clarksville,” said Mayor McMillan. [Read more]

Three Clarksville Police Officers Receive Lifesaving Award

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On November 18th, 2011, Officers Jeff Danault, Mark Wilson, and Nathan Lee were presented with The Lifesaving Award at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters. The Lifesaving Award is given to officers whose actions saved or extended the life of another person.

The Lifesaving Award was presented to the officers for their actions on September 3rd, 2011 when they responded to a shots fired call at 801 Providence Boulevard and found a man that had been hit by gunfire. He was bleeding from both legs due to gunshot wounds; the left leg was bleeding severely.

Clarksville City Councilman appointed by Governor Haslam

The Seal of the State of TennesseeNashville, TN – A Clarksville city councilman has been appointed to a state board by Governor Bill Haslam. It was announced today that Ward 1 councilman Nick Steward has been appointed to The Tennessee Pest Control and Licensing and Advisory Board.

This board meets to consider special licenses for individuals who meet minimum qualifications for certain categories of pesticide application. Steward is expected to take the oath of office November 1st in a ceremony at the Clarksville Board of Realtors. Steward is a first term city councilman, replacing Barbara Johnson in North Clarksville. [Read more]

Public Input Meeting to be held October 25th

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Office of Facilities Development will hold a Public Input meeting to allow interested citizens to view the proposed design drawings and express their comments concerning re-design to the parking of Veterans Plaza.

The meeting will be held at the William O. Beach Civic Hall, Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30pm. Those who are unable attend the meeting may stop by the Facilities Development office, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 201, to review the proposed plan and leave comments.

Montgomery County Receives Greater Nashville Regional Council Award

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County was recently honored with an Award from Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) for “Energy Conversation and Resource Protection”.

The City of Clarksville and Montgomery County Government have worked together with leadership from several area businesses to establish the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP).

The idea for the Green Certification Program came from a Leadership Clarksville project of the 2010 class.
