Known for their “Always on time or you don’t pay a dime”. tagline, Harris One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning offers heating and air conditioning maintenance, installation and other services. Megan Vargas, daughter of owners Mike and Suzanne Harris, attended the CMC Green Certification Workshops and took the lead in the green initiatives.

It has made a difference and it’s been a good thing to show our employees and to show our children and grandchildren,” said Suzanne Harris.

“It was a pleasure meeting the Harris Family and the people who work for them. Their green initiatives are impressive and I wish them success in all that they do,” said Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

One immediate visible change Harris One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning did to reduce pollution and save money was trade out their F-150 business truck for the small hybrid car (Toyota Prius) shown in the photo below. “A new car payment and paying for gas combined is still less than our gas bill alone was on the truck which averaged about $700.00 per month,” bragged Suzanne Harris.

Harris One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning tradeed their F-150 business truck for the small hybrid Toyota Prius car.

From their lights out campaign and temperature control settings, to recycling and reusing their paper, pallets and coils, Harris One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning is seeing results in lower bills and less waste.

“We are excited about our Green Certification because now we are able to tell our community and tell our customers that we making every effort that we can to be environmentally friendly and be able to pass that on to them. Six months ago we just threw all of our paper away. I now hear the last person in our office to get a recycling bin telling other people to recycle. Once you help people to change their minds, it becomes automatic. Now people in the office are recycling and using less energy on their own,” said Vargas.

The family has future plans to change their fleet over to hybrid vehicles and to use I-pads rather than paper in the customer business transactions when possible.

Only 20 of the more than 700 Anheuser-Busch wholesalers in the nation were selected for the award, and the Clarksville facility placed fourth.

Hand Family Companies learned of the awards in February and the two facilities were recognized during the Ambassadors of Excellence Top Performers meeting held April 12th-15th in Monterey, California.

“The Ambassadors of Excellence program recognizes wholesalers who implement key business initiatives and execute processes to deliver exceptional results,” said Charles Hand Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of Hand Family Companies.

According to Hand, wholesalers are measured on management, sales structure, operations, people/human resources and technology. “It is a very thorough process that covers the big picture of strategy down to the small details such as cleanliness of the vehicles used for sales and deliveries” said Hand.

Hand said the awards would not have been possible without the dedication of the people who work there. “Our employees take pride in what they do and that shows in the results we are able to achieve.”

Hand also attributed their success to the strong partnerships enjoyed with the retailers in the Clarksville and Hopkinsville markets. “Our success is built on the success of our customers” said Hand. If they do well with our products, we all do well.”

Hand Family Companies owns and operates distributorships in six cities: Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga and Memphis in Tennessee, and Hopkinsville and Owensboro in Kentucky. In addition to Anheuser-Busch products, the distributorships handle products from numerous other major suppliers, including Yuengling, New Belgium, Crown, Hansen (Monster energy drinks), Calypso, Icelandic Water, Nestle, and more.

Hand Family Companies is owned and operated by Charles W. Hand, CEO; Charles Hand Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer; Charlsie Hand Lankford, Property manager; and Aimee Hand, Finance Manager.

The event will be from noon-5:00pm, Sunday, at Mason Rudolph golf course and practice facility and it’s free and open to the public.

“Golfers will be able to hit the new clubs, and Nike can also show them how far they’re hitting their current equipment and decide if they want to make any changes. I’ve been impressed with how far Nike Golf has come over the years, and I think area golfers will enjoy meeting with their representatives” said Vaughn.

Mason Rudolph golf course and practice facility is located just off Madison Street on Golf Club Lane, and is the only public practice facility in the Clarksville area. It features a nine hole golf course as well. The facility has putting greens and sand traps as well as a driving range for golfers to work on their game. The Demo Day event will be on the driving range.

“We invite golfers to come by and meet our staff, and members of the Nike Golf family” Vaughn said.

The city of Clarksville maintains two golf courses within the city. In addition to Mason Rudolph, Swan Lake golf course is an eighteen hole course, with a full service pro shop. Located on Dunbar Cave Road, it sits nestled within the historic Dunbar Cave, and is open for pubic play seven days per week.

Restore Ministries is a new program that offers small groups, counseling and other services to help those in our community make lasting positive changes in their lives. No matter what needs attention and healing, Restore Ministries can provide the support and guidance a person needs to learn, grow and ultimately thrive. Restore Ministries accomplishes this two ways: counseling and small groups.

“Using laughter to change our community” is what Comedy on the Cumberland is all about. To date, the franchise has raised over thirty thousand dollars for Clarksville area charities and civic groups.

In addition to counseling, Restore Ministries also offers small groups led by trained and caring facilitators in a supportive environment in which people who are seeking to make similar life changes can work together to identify and overcome the barriers standing between them and lasting change.

Program coordinator Suzanna Powers says, “We meet people where they are, and we grow from there.”

Groups address all types of issues ranging from anxiety to grief to low self-esteem and body image. Restore Ministries is for everyone, guiding men and women to complete hope, healing and restoration. Most groups meet for eight weeks and fees are based on your ability to pay. Restore Ministries has helped change the lives of over 150 people in Clarksville to date.

Program counselor Betsy Abrahams, who works one-on-one with clients says, “everybody has problems, and is dealing with issues that we can help with. You don’t have to do it alone. The YMCA has always looked to reach out to everyone, and Restore Ministries is just another program where we can reach people, and help them make positive changes in their lives.”

Comedy on the Cumberland features good clean stand-up comedy featuring some of the funniest comedians in the country. Stars like Henry Cho, Keith Alberstadt, Karen Mills, Rik Roberts, “Big” John Richardson and more have performed in Clarksville.

Tickets are $30.00, and all proceeds benefit Restore Ministries.

Tickets are available at F&M Bank, YMCA, or online at www.comedyonthecumberland.com, www.boneheadpromotions.com.
