Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Queen City Road Race and Clarksville Parks and Recreation gears up for the summer season at the pools.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's "Yoga in the Park"

Free Yoga in the Park begins May 14th

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Clarksville area YMCA have partnered up once again to host Yoga in the Park. What better way to start your day, than to relax with the beauty of the Cumberland River, and Yoga in the Park?

Yoga in the Park is a free class that will be held on the stage behind the “As the River Flows” museum at McGregor Park, on Riverside Drive. Class will meet Wednesdays & Fridays at 6:00am, May 14th-June 20th. All ages are welcome.

Participants must bring their own yoga mat. The participant(s) with the highest attendance at the end of the program will be eligible to receive a gift card!

Limited spots available for the Spring Family Campout

May 17th-18th

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to sleep under the stars at Billy Dunlop Park. Registration is underway for the spring Family Campout beginning at 2:00pm Saturday, May 17th, until 9:00am Sunday, May 18th at the park located at 1930 East Boy Scout Road.

Activities will include a bonfire, games, ghost stories and lots of fun!

The Family Campout is $10.00 per person or $40.00 per family (up to 6 members) and will include an afternoon and evening of games and fun as well as a hot dog dinner and breakfast provided Sunday morning.

Families will need to provide their own tent and sleeping materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Don’t miss out on your chance to sleep under the stars with your neighbors.

Pre-register by May 16th at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office located at 102 Public Square or online at

Civil War Medical Items on Display at Fort Defiance May 24th

The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center will host a medical display Saturday, May 24th from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The exhibit features presentations by Mark Britton and includes a collection of medical items used during the 19th century to include necessary tools for blood-letting, various surgical procedures and preparation of period medicinal products. The display also includes information regarding use of indigenous herbs used in medical practices.

Visitors can also explore the well preserved outer earthen works, powder magazine, and gun platforms. As well as the permanent exhibit indoors that includes the 18-minute film, “Crossroads of Change 1861-1865”.

Summer Youth Program Registration Opens May 27th

The 2014 Summer Youth Program will begin June 2nd with the opening of 15 program sites, including three sites just for teens, and will end July 11th. This year’s theme is “Pumping up with Summer Fun!”

Summer Youth Program is a free six-week day camp-type program offered each summer to youths, ages 6-16. Gyms at various locations are staffed with directors and assistants, who will help with activities and provide free, instructional classes such as gymnastics and karate.

Registration is easy! Register on-site from 9:00am to noon on the following dates:

  • Community Center sites: May 27th
  • School sites: May 30th
