Go Commando Half Marathon donates $40,000 to Local Organizations
Clarksville, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented byannounced Thursday they would donate $40,000 to local non-profits and community organizations. The largest recipients, Clarksville Area YMCA and Fort Campbell Historical Foundation were on hand to accept the donations.
The money given to the Clarksville Area YMCA will be used to fund programs such as their ABC Outreach and Restore Ministries. ABC Outreach allows breast cancer survivors to attend a 16-week course to rebuild strength as well as, educating and empowering participants as they continue to heal. Restore Ministries works to provide healing and hope for those struggling with life’s toughest issues. Both programs are free-of-charge to participants.
James “O’Bee” O’Bryant, Executive Director, accepted the check on behalf of the Clarksville Area YMCA. “Events like the Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k give families a chance to get active, and support wellness programs that extend beyond just race day,” said O’Bryant. “We’re happy to be a part of it.”
The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation provides support and assistance to Fort Campbell soldiers and their families. The Foundation works closely with the Don F. Pratt Military Museum and oversees plans for the future Wings of Liberty Military Museum.
“This entire event has been a great experience,” said Robert Nichols, Executive Director of the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation. “We are thankful for the contribution and are looking forward to future races.”
In its second year, the Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband saw a combined total of 1,500 registrants. The economic impact of the event was an estimated $43,400.00 and nearly 300 volunteers were on hand to assist during the event.
“Our success depends on the support and dedication of our sponsors, volunteers and the local community as a whole. Go Commando is able to give back because of everyone who chooses to participate, and we’re thankful to have so many great people who want to be a part of this event,” stated Jessica Goldberg, Race Director.

The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband began in 2011 to promote health and wellness to the Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell communities and to honor the service of those in uniform. The event is organized and supported entirely by local businesses and organizations. All proceeds from the event support local initiatives.
