It’s astounding, time is fleeting, Madness takes its toll. But listen closely, not for very much longer, I’ve got to keep control.

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – It’s not to late to do a Science Fiction, Double Feature with tonight and tomorrow being the last two shows of the wonderful Roxy Regional Theatre‘s revival of The Rocky Horror Show. The Cult classic from Richard O’Brien tells the story of Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss, two clean-cut young people on the way to pay a visit Brad’s old college professor.

Lets take a jump to the left and a step to the right as we talk about the play.

Many people would assume that the play is based on the 1975 cult classic movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was described by the Library of Congress when they inducted the film into the National Film Registry in 2005 as “the quintessential midnight movie, offering a participatory moviegoing experience to millions of college students and other fans of this cult classic of American cinema;” but they would be wrong. Instead, it all started out as a small theatre production in London.

The play was based on a combination of grade B Horror movies, Steve Reeves muscle flicks and fifties rock ‘n’ roll. It starred O’Brien as Riff-Raff, a maniacal handyman; and Tim Curry in the leading role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the kinky scientist who creates “Rocky Horror”, as his personal Adonis. Even though Curry originally came to read for the role of Rocky, his raucous performance of Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti” made it clear he was destined to play the lead role.

So you could say that the movie captured the spirit of the original play, and the Roxy Regional Theatre’s revival really owns both of them… This cast will not disappoint the fans of the original play or the movie.

Don’t get strung out by the way that I look, Don’t judge a book by its cover. I’m not much of a man by the light of day, But by night I’m one hell of a lover.

Directed and choreographed by Tom Thayer, Roxy’s revival of the THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW features Matt Varelia as a that sweet Transvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter; Rob Rodems and Kaitlin Doughty as Brad Majors (Asshole) and Janet Weiss (Slut), Ryan Bowie and Emily Eden as Riff Raff (He stole the show) and Magenta, Michelle Foletta as an amazing Columbia (and to think I thought no one could ever top Little Nell in my heart), Colin Ryan as the perfect Eddie, Matt Casey as a buff Rocky, and John McDonald as a marvelous Dr. Scott. Along with Humberto Figueroa and Nicole Powell serving as phantoms.

Audiences will be doing the “Time Warp” to live music provided by Tom Thayer on piano, Jarrod Jackson on guitar, Bruce Ervin on bass, Thad Wallus on drums, and Johnny Tubbs on saxophone.

Audience Participation has always been a big part of the Rocky Horror Show, and the Roxy Regional Theatre offers a kit with approved items that fans are encouraged to use in the show, they also have a list of prohibited items (rice, confetti, glitter, squirt guns, lighters, matches, candles, silly spray string, or any other objects which may damage the theatre or injure actors and/or audience members). Feel free to attend dressed up either as a character from the show, or in drag; just keep it tasteful. And if you feel the call of the time warp don’t be afraid to dance right along.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW was made possible in part through the generous support of Fort Campbell MWR. Tickets are $25.00 and may be purchased online at www.roxyregionaltheatre.org, by phone at 931.645.7699, or at the theatre during regular box office hours (9:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday).
