A few examples of their initiatives include implementing recycling in all county offices, the installation of solar panels on the roof of their office, and educating employees on ways to make their offices greener environments. Employees are encouraged to turn out lights when leaving the office, and as county buildings are renovated, this office works to utilize energy efficient lighting and equipment whenever possible.

Joe Woodard, Facilities Manager led the county’s efforts. “We have worked with each office individually to see how they can best conserve energy and educate their employees on recycling practices. We installed switch plate labels throughout county offices reminding people to turn off lights when rooms aren’t occupied, as well as installing occupancy sensors where possible. It truly has been a county-wide effort and we are pleased with the results.”

Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers was on hand to congratulate the employees. “We greatly appreciate this office leading the efforts throughout county offices. We have been pleased with the savings generated thus far and are impressed with the employee participation. We hope that the employees take the initiatives we have implemented with them into their churches, homes and family – ultimately making Montgomery County a greener community!”
